Nanaimo’s Art Community Receives $35,900

Nanaimo - As part of its commitment to strengthening, enhancing and showcasing British Columbia’s artistic and cultural community, 2010 Legacies Now, through Arts Now, announced funding of four major art projects. Initiatives include:

  • TheatreOne - commission of a play script based on the life of Frank Ney, an important character in Nanaimo’s history.
  • Theatre BC - audience development software, processes and management practices.
  • Vancouver Island Arts Festivals Society – implementation and design of marketing and fundraising strategies.
  • The Vancouver Island Symphony - educational and public performances in Campbell River and Duncan, as an audience development initiative.

“This funding will surely provide a positive boost to our local arts community," said Camela Tang, chair of the Nanaimo Spirit of BC Community Committee. “Supporting the arts is a priority for our committee as we continue building legacies leading up to 2010 and beyond. We are particularly pleased by the wide reaching effects of the initiatives funded and are thrilled about the 'Frank Ney Project' by TheatreOne, adding to their outstanding list of plays bringing our history to life ”

Nanaimo’s art community has a strong history of enriching our culture. We are home to world-class professional artists and musicians, creative festival organizers and individuals dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts. We look forward to our role in preparations for “a show the world will never forget”.
